Same Old Song and Dance

I have been very aware that I'm boring you all to tears. No, no, let's not lie to each other, I'm sitting here and yawning is all I'm doing. Well it turns out there are some archives around here and I wondered what I was up to at this exact same time last year.

I was much worse.

I don't know how you all stuck in there but, wow. The good news is I'm not having any anxiety issues like I did last year at this time, taxes turned out to be a snap and I already live in my new house. Who'd a thunk it? Amazing what a year will do.

So, some stupid questions and general nonsense about to commence. Hey, you must be bored also or you'd be off somewhere else. Or doing your taxes.

1. Over at Dear Author there are two women named Jane and Jayne. I thought they were the two women who ran the site. So my question is who are Jan and Janine? I noticed when I filled out my Rita ballot that four names were at the bottom and suddenly I'm wondering who everybody is. Then I was all tickled that their names all started with J and then I realized they could be akas. Sorry, I don't get out much.

2. How many forums are you signed up for in the romance world? And can I just say, I must be getting old because when AAR switched over to the new setup I was all, 'I'm out!'. I see how they work and stuff but I liked being able to pick into a thread at certain levels. Let's not get into the signature lines that can have oodles of graphics flashing at me (not at AAR). I don't know if there are as many discussions going on now or not. I used to be able to flash in and see everything in one shot. I knew where I had left off so I could see all the new stuff in one shot. Now, you have to click back into the area, page through till you find your post and then read on from there. Yes, there is the 'new posts while I was away' feature but they only lead you to the beginning thread. I'm just saying. Not so conducive for the lazy.

3. How hooked into the reading world are you? I mean, if you are a romance reader are you at the forums and boards often? If you are more along of the lines of fantasy, are there other places you hang at besides Twisted Kingdom? I guess I'm asking if there are sites like AAR for fantasy and sci-fi and chicklit cause, seriously, those would be the places to go to if I wanted to start reading in another genre. I *think* I'm becoming more of an isolationist without meaning to. I like my blog hopping way too much and it's like visiting friends but I am less likely to hang out where there are tons of comments. Probably because then someone has already said what I wanted to only better and well, that sucks.

That's enough for now.

I decided to pull down Summer Breeze by Catherine Anderson after Holly suggested it in the comments. (The heroine is agoraphobic - squeeeee!) I'm thinking I need to go book buying also.

This will come as no surprise to anyone but I'm of the mind that if my copy of Claiming the Courtesan doesn't show up in the mail tomorrow I may have to go out and buy it.

I'm so predictable.

OH!!! Who's the other Nathan Fillion fan? Did you watch the new show Drive!? It the Amazing Race only hard core! I'm going to be so pissed if they cancel this show!

I watched! I watched mainly for the eye candy that Nathan Fillion is, because otherwise the concept bores me. Yep, I know, sacrilege, but I didn't watch The Amazing Race, either.

The chick with the newborn? Creepy. She strikes me as someone who seems totally sane and soft-spoken until she does something...like shooting at other contestants.

I hear you on the isolationist thing.

I find myself sorta just hanging with the bloggers I enjoy, whereas I used to go to AAR a fair amount o see what the "news of the day" would be. Now I can't really be arsed.

But then I find that it's becoming harder and harder for me to think of a comment, even when I really like the blog entry of a blogging friend. Which makes me sort of pull out of the conversation all together. Hmmm.

Maybe I just need to give myself a swift kick upside the head.

Hey Cindy :D

Honest, you're not boring us :D It's fun to read what you write, I think it's how you write it :D It's just funny and at least, you update often :D

Hope you enjoy Summer Breeze! :) and at least, wait till you finish it before going to buy Claiming the Courtesan LOL :)

You never ever bore me, Cindy, but I know exactly what you mean about feeling isolated.

And I also know this probably isn't what you want to hear but one of the things I'm hoping to use the Reader Network forum for is to help us find new sites like what you're talking about. The more of us looking and sharing the info and all, the more we'll find. And it has a RSS feed you can use to keep up with the posts if you want to. ;)

Suisan, I think it's probably purely a life thing. I go through periods when life offline just gets to the point where I don't have the mental energy for blogging. And yet I don't want to give up on it. So I don't. It's a trade off.

I feel like I'm pimping the RN at the moment but any time one of you don't feel like blogging, use the Coffee Shop there to just chat with the rest of us. That's what it's there for. I'm very serious when I say that RN is for all of us. Whatever the need is.

Hey Cindy-I always come here for a laugh. :P No, I'm not laughing AT you.

I just do my bloghops. I rarely go to message boards or the like. Too many people, so many chances for fighting. Not my scene.

Also, my dad dvr'd "drive" last night, so I'm gonna watch it today. Especially if it's as awesome as you say it is. HUGS

The strange thing is that I don't do that many boards nowadays either. Which is why finding myself being admin for one is a shock. ;p

One of the things I've be seriously considering is making RN a infomation sharing/controversy free zone. I'm not sure how workable it would be but there are plenty of places to go for issue discussions, you know. I think it would just be nice to have a place to simply chat and share links.

I don't do any message boards either--I don't really have time and I'd rather just read individual blogs. :)

And you're never boring! I always laugh when I read your posts.

JMC - Eye candy - yum but I also love the concept and I'm an Amazing Race fangirl! I love ambiguous characters and it looks like we get a boat load!

Suisan - nah, I hear ya. I read everyone's blog even when I have no clue what they are writing about (eg. books I know I'll never read because they are 'literature' and I don't go for that ;)) so sometimes my comments wouldn't even be relevant. Okay, my comments are almost never relevant but, I'm a gabber ;)

Nath - oh yeah, I'm a serial blogger and thanks for thinking I'm funny ;) I didn't buy CTC because I really do want to read Summer Breeze first and I'm trying on willpower. I'll let you know how it fits.

Bev - Thanks! My only problem with forums right now is the way they are set up. Yep, I'm getting to be one of those fuddy duddy old goobers. I'll have to remember the coffeeshop and I know from your blog that you only want to create an area where we can all just hang and that's cool.

Ames - You can always laugh AT me, hell, I laugh at myself many times a day. I may have to dye my hair blonde nowadays but I come by it naturally. Oooh, you have to let me know what you think about Drive. AWESOME!

Jennie - you know I don't even visit Smart Bitches anymore because it feels too busy and I used to go there everyday. I think also, not being 'in tune' with every iota of the blog world can leave you scratching your head when someone makes an inside joke that everyone but you chortles at. And well, I pretty sure I can only buy so many clues before someone tells me to move on!

Dear Author is the Ja(y)nes plus Janine who also does reviews and recently Jan was added and she does Manga reviews.

I don't do boards. I love my bloggy friends and enjoy the personal commentary (like yours) and the reviews. It just feels more personal.

While I applaud lots of discussion and intelligent conversation I think both Smart Bitches and Dear Author get a little lofty sometimes and that it can alienate your average reader. However, I also think it is great that there are people of all sorts that read and love romance and are out there talking about it and the industry.

Me...I'm "Norm" from CHEERS. I wanna go where everyone knows my name.

I'm with Rosie. I have one board I frequent, but, like, I own it, so you know it's cool. lol

I'm so glad you decided to pick up Summer Breeze. Can't wait to see what you think (err...if you actually read it, that is).
