Some Movies I've Watched

We interrupt your regularly scheduled program to announce that

I just won a $25 Amazon Gift Certificate from Meljean Brook!!!

Excuse me I feel the need to dance.

*snoopy shuffle, snoopy shuffle, plie, plie, graceful leap *snort*, trip over the dog and bow*

Now, before I get a bunch of 'way to brag bitch' comments you still have time to enter her contest. Hie thee off to Meljean's pronto!

Dude, for real, she's paying out over there!! You can read my crappy movie sum ups later!

And now back to your regularly scheduled program.

The Fountain.

What. The. Fuck!!!!

I want my hour and a half back.

The whole thing was a mess. If someone can tell me what Spain, the present and the space ship have to do with one another I promise not to blog for a whole day. Win, win.

Ah, just read the Amazon blurb and apparently it was booed at the Cannes Film festival. It all makes sense now.

The Prestige.

Excellent even though I figured it out half way through. Not that I'm a genius but I had heard this movie had blown people's minds so I was looking for it. Still, it kept me thinking and wondering and even though it's really about obsession and narcissism and where it can lead, it was a good way to spend some time.

Because I Said So.

I really didn't want to rent this movie because I think the lead actress whose name is missing from my brain right now, acts the same in every movie. I think she overacts to be honest and yes, she does that in this movie. Still it was cute and not horribly obnoxious so I would say it's not a bad way to spend a few hours. Nothing earth shattering here although one spot had me tearing up.

The Painted Veil

I went into this knowing it wasn't going to be a HEA. I mean, how can it be? A man takes his wife into the middle of a cholera epidemic after discovering she is having an affair. The things they did chose to say were painful and I wished they had said what I wanted them to say while I was watching. They do this overview thing where you see them talking about the heroes work and that they are getting closer but I never hear the words. We just never hear the words. And even though I knew it wasn't going to end happily, I would have preferred a different epilogue. Should you rent it? Well, it certainly wasn't the horridness that was The Fountain and it wasn't the brilliance of The Prestige but it was beautifully shot and Naomi Watts and Edward Norton do an excellent job.

Oh. I totally went online last night and bought even more books.

I feel much better now.

I'll share when they arrive.

Hey, I have to give you a reason to keep coming back!

I saw The Prestige in the theater and really liked it. That said, two hours looking at Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale isn't exactly a hardship.

Still need to see The Painted Veil, but will wait to catch it on cable. I have a serious geek girl crush on Edward Norton, and I'll watch it for no other reason than that.

I'm OK with being shallow.

Congrats for winning :D yeah, 25$ on Amazon, that is great-o :D So what did you buy?

As for the movies, well I have seen none of them :P is The Fountain the one with Hugh Jackman where he's looking for the fountain of youth?

Congrats Cindy!!!

Well, The Fountain is a fantasy movie and the very, very, very basic plot is that the man loves his wife and wants to find a cure for her condition. Their souls are interconnected throughout the different stories. As if they are always meant to be together but at the same time will be separated because, no matter what he does, she is still destined to die and mortals cannot alter the life and death cycle. The husband refuses to believe he has no power over this because death is "just another disease." It's a struggle with one's mortality as well.

Of course, the movie has so many themes that just about everyone can come up with something they feel the movie represents.

Congratulations!!

I liked The Prestige. That's the only movie of the four I've seen. I wanted to see the other three, but I may skip The Fountain all together. Life's too short!

Congratulations on the gift certificate. You lucky. I have not been in the mood for anything too deep lately, so that comedy by Diane Keaton sounds just right. I'm putting it on my reserve list.

Wendy - Christian Bale just gets better and better looking as he gets older and I do like older men ;) And Edward Norton is exactly the reason I rented the movie. It was quite the thing to see him all stuffy and stodgy and then loosen up. I won't ruin it for you ;)

Nath - I haven't bought anything yet but I think I would treat myself to some HTF books that I can only seem to find in the States. And the Fountain is about finding the fountain of youth or everlasting life.

Mailyn - We have a winner! See that made much more sense and I think that was what I was expecting to see. I think I was waiting for the characters to realize they had always struggled in the same way but there was no movement or recognition of their previous lives except in the sphere and I was thinking he was crazy in the sphere.

Jenster - I think I had another story in my mind and when it didn't go where I expected it disappointed.

Renee - I know the feeling. I went to W*lmart there and bought 3 movies for 15 dollars but I'm betting in two of them the one of the lead characters die. I'm hoping they don't and that they are really sweet love stories. Dang, I can't remember the names but I know Diane Lane is in one and I really like her.

Hmm, I've wanted to see The Prestige for a while but never got around to it. I heard that the other one with Jessica Biel is better but I'm not really interested in watching that one (so much so that I forgot what the movie was called) but I do want to see Because I Said So even though I haven't found one person who has loved it to pieces!

And just because you didn't understand it or like it, I'm not going anywhere near The Fountain. No matter how hot Hugh Jackman is.

Hey, congrats on winning! I never win anything so I'm always amazed when people win things ;)!

I really liked The Prestiege, although, like you I'd figured it out as well and Wendy's right, Hugh and Christian, in the same movie??! TWIST MY ARM!!! I liked it better than The Illusionist (Ween, that's the one with Jessica Beil :))...but that's just me!

Enjoyed Because I Said So, more for Diane Keaton than anything, she's just so funny. You're right, Mandy Moore does seem to play the exact same role!

I got The Fountain from the library and it's over due maybe I won't even bother, I wasn't all that interested....just knew Hugh was in it.

Although I LOVE Ed Norton, The Painted Veil sounds a little too depressing...think I'll opt for something a little more lighthearted! :)

Rowena - I went to return the movies and decided to rent the other magician movie because Edward Norton is in it ;) and thanks!

Biblioharlot - you can always start the Fountain and if you find it as lame as I did turn it off. Since I wanted more from the Painted Veil I can't really say go and rent it but if you are a Norton fan and you could use a good cry then I would give it a shot.
